Another take on a probing solution for the dragonburner toolhead.

I didn't like the way the zeroclick probe was implemented to the dragonburner toolhead cowl, so i made my own solution. The design is heavily inspired by zeroclick: https://github.com/zruncho3d/ZeroClick

The magnets that hold the probe to the cowl, also hold the probe to the dock, so the dock can be even smaller. Another difference is the direction of docking.

Bill of Materials:

  • 6 6x3mm round magnets (2 for probe, 2 for cowl, 2 for dock)
  • Omron(like) limit switch D2F
  • M3x10ish screw and nut for attaching dock to extrusion
  • Wire
  • Superglue

Assembly:

  1. Print one of the cowls, a probe and the dock
  2. Insert wire into cowl, spread the strands out a bit, and glue magnets in place with alternating polarity. (Zeroclick uses a bit of desoldering wick for a better connection. I'm running without the wick as I was struggling to get the magnets nice and even with the wick. It's without any issues so far, but the wire I used is pretty beefy and has a lot of strands.)
  3. Insert the omron switch into the probe and fold the legs over. Glue the magnets in place, keep in mind the alternating polarity. I like to click the magnets to the magnets in the cowl, and use the cowl to push the in. As the switch is excentric, make it so that the click part of the switch is closest to the nozzle.
  4. Add the magnets into the dock, so the probe is attracted to the dock. Keep in mind the correct orientation of the switch. The magnets don't have to be glued in place; if you get the orientation wrong, you can take them out and try again.
  5. With the hotend mounted, hang the probe from the hotend, and align the dock to the correct height and secure the dock.

Klipper:

I'm using the klicky macros with the probe:
