Motivation

Recently I was looking for a printer table, which turned out to be much harder than I expected. The requirements were:

  • made of wood or mostly made of wood
  • cheap
  • lots of storage + at least one drawer
  • sufficient surface space for a Bambu P1S plus some room to spare

Enter IVAR

Soon I noticed that the “IVAR Cabinet, pine, 80x50x83 cm” (https://www.ikea.com/de/en/p/ivar-cabinet-pine-70033766/) along with the “IVAR Drawer, pine, 80x50x18 cm” (https://www.ikea.com/de/en/p/ivar-drawer-pine-80488902/) would be pretty much perfect. The only downside is the required outer frame, which holds the whole system and provides stiffness and stability. I don't like the looks and I think, at least for such a small two-part combo, it's a waste of space.

Printing

The mechanical parts must be printed in PETG or ABS / ASA. Use sufficiently strong settings (4 walls, 5 top/bottom layers, 30% infill)

Print the drawer_connector on it's side, using supports for the overhanging part.

Assembly

Note: for the legs, I used “BRYNILEN Leg, oak, 10 cm” (https://www.ikea.com/de/en/p/brynilen-leg-oak-60299691/). The provided leg_adaptor requires a M8 nut to fasten a leg. It's propably a good idea to use some glue for the nut.

Note: you should anchor the table to a wall. I haven't tried, but I imagine a purely free-standing table would be too wobbly for a high-speed printer.

Other than that, the assembly should be straight-forward. You propably want to make sure that the drawer lid is well-fastened using internal metal brackets and a suport beam. After all, the printer can weigh 20kg and is creating a lot of force.
