This is a simple magnetic mount that allows mounting 2 antennas on a magnetic surface. The mount has a T shape, to prevent if from tilting or sliding down the surface it is mounted against (take a look at the pictures).
Required Parts
2 RP-SMA male-female cables, with the female side having a panel mount nut
2 magnets 3x8mm (the actual dimensions of the magnets were ~2.6x8mm)
Print Settings
Walls: 2 loops
Top/Bottom Shell: 3 layers
Infill: 15%
Material: Any (I used PETG)
Supports: None (use the orientation in model files, print as an up-side-down “T”)
Assembly
- Glue in the magnets, I used Epoxy (choice of glue depends on material).
- Tighten down the RP-SMA female cables in their mounting holes
FAQ
This is plastic, I thought antennas need a ground plane?
Short answer: No, most common WiFi antennas don't require a ground plane. The standard black stick antennas are dipole antennas and don't require a ground plane. Most higher gain antennas like panels or Yagis also don't require a ground plane. Many people confuse common Wifi antennas with “Rubber Duckies”, the kind of antennas on walkie talkies. Rubber Duckies are monopoles and do require a ground plane, but I have never seen a monopole WiFi antenna.
