Introduction

There are a few of these, but this is my Version 2 take on a very simple fume extractor for soldering on your workbench.

It's designed to use cheap and available Hakka A1001 style filters without paying for the more expensive Hakka rig.

Materials

You'll need to source a 120mm fan and a way to power it.

Going with a 5V fan and a cheap USB-C port is the easiest way and quite effective.

A higher performance design is to use a 12V fan and a USB-PD inlet. This is what I am using for my personal fume extractor.

Printing

One of each part is needed.

It prints easily in PLA/PETG/ABS, no supports are needed. I attempted to output correct orientations in the files, but use your best judgement if something looks off.

I used 0.2mm layer heights and a 0.4mm nozzle. It should be a fairly flexible design, but other nozzle / layer height combinations aren't tested.

License

I'm including CAD files in open formats and using a CC-BY-SA license. If you wanted to get more creative and add batteries, or switches, or a load of RGB LEDs go for it, send me a link.

Revisions

V1.0

I have some other ideas for a V1.5, but I feel like I've been sitting on this V1 too long and need to get this published.

V1.1

Changed from using clips to adding a hood that holds the shrouds and better guides airflow to the filter. The front and back shrouds do not need to be re-printed. The hood fits right over the top of the clips.

V2.0

Added USB-PD trigger for 12V fan support. Redesigned interface between upper shrouds and lower bay to keep things together a bit better.
