A modern gallows wall lamp with real wood and a vintage-style socket and light bulb. It brings warm, cozy light and wooden accents to your room.
The main housing clips in place without tools and can be opened again later on by slightly leveraging it with a screwdriver or chisel at the bottom. The wall mount offers different screw positions, allowing you to avoid things like pipes or cables behind the plaster.
The model is available for external/bottom or internal cable routing. The version for external cables is offered with a 5 and a 7 mm through-hole. The wood part is available in the original size as shown in the picture and a slightly smaller variant which should look even more elegant.
Bill of materials
- 1 wooden block (oak recommended), machined according to the drawing
- 3 wood screws, 4.0x50 mm
- 1 Bakelite E27 socket
- 1 vintage “filament style” E27 LED bulb, color temperature 2400 K or below
- 1.5 m of textile-wrapped lamp cord (6 mm OD)
- 3 Wago clips for connecting the cable (the types 221-412, 221-2411 or 2773-2401 work best)
- 1 (internal cable routing) or 2 (external routing) zip ties for strain relief
- 2 or 4 wood or drywall screws 4.0x50 or 4.5x50 mm and appropriate dowels for wall mounting
- Flame retardant or self extinguishing filament for the printed parts
I have seen 12 V E27 bulbs for sale. If you can find an appropriate bulb and 12 V PSU, the lamp can be powered that way. If you want to go the mains powered route, please make sure that you know what you are doing and how to work safely around mains voltage circuits. If in doubt, please consult a licensed professional.
Build process
- Order or machine the wooden block
- Finish the wood by sanding and applying a satin-finish clear coat
- Print the housing and the wall mount
- Finish the pinted parts by using multiple coats of spray filler, followed by sanding and painting. Use a satin-finish clear coat for the final layer
- Screw the wooden piece to the lamp housing using the 3 wood screws
- Route the lamp cord through the wooden piece
- Tightly wrap a zip tie around the lamp cord inside of the lamp housing as a strain relief
- Cut the cord to length and install the E27 socket
- Install the wall mount using either the middle holes at the top and bottom (2 screws), or the corner holes (4 screws). There is no need to use all six screw positions. Pay attention to the two small arrows on the mount - they should be pointing upwards
- External cable routing only: Push the external power cable through the opening in the bottom right of the wall mount and tightly wrap a zip tie around the cable inside the mount as a strain relief
- Connect the lamp cord to the power cable using the Wago clips and mount the lamp to the wall by slotting it in at the top and then pivoting the bottom part towards the wall until you hear the clip engage
- Install the LED bulb
- Switch it on and enjoy!
Print settings
- Layer height 0.2 mm (optionally 0.12 mm on the housing to reduce the time spent sanding it)
- Line width 0.42 mm
- Infill ≥30%
- 5 wall lines
- 5 top & bottom layers
- Supports not required
The filament should be a flame retardant / self extinguishing material according to UL 94 V-0 like Prusament PETG V0 or FormFutura ABSpro Flame Retardant. PLA should be avoided due to creeping. Carbon fiber (CF) infused filaments should not be used due to their potential electrical conductivity.
Approximate print times @ 60 mm/s: Housing 4:25 h / Wall mount 3:05 h
