We added an extra row of seats to our Volkswagen Transporter, but unfortunately, we didn't have access to the original mounting brackets or the plastic covers. To solve this, we fabricated our own custom mounting brackets by cutting and welding steel.
To finish the installation cleanly, I designed a custom plastic cover for the brackets using FreeCAD. The model is tailored to fit snugly over the custom mounts and gives a clean, factory-like look to the seat base.
I printed the cover using a Creality Hyper Series PLA Filament (1.75mm) with the following print settings: 7 perimeters (walls), 6 top and bottom layers, 20% infill.
These settings provide excellent strength and rigidity—perfect for components that will experience regular wear and tear.
I've also included the FreeCAD source file in case you'd like to tweak the model to fit your own custom bracket setup.
