Remix of David Elentok's Cover. I updated the fillets to be tighter and added TPU to protect and retain the controller.

Thanks to David Elentok for getting a good start to this design going. The fit was good without being too tight but I didn't have any foam tape so I decided to make a few changes and ended up redesigning it a fair bit. In the interest of keeping with the remix culture and the original designer's license choice I'm uploading my Fusion 360 file and a STEP file in addition to the 3MF.

The cover's fillets were changed to be a tighter fit around the corners. The finger grooves on the sides were replaced by a single wider groove on the bottom. The top of the case was brought up to allow for a filleted overhang which will hold the front of the controller. The ears to protect the triggers were lengthened slightly to help protect the triggers better. the inner bottom fillet was made much larger and the outer bottom fillet was replaced with a large chamfer. I also added my logo to the inside and the 8BitDo 8-bit heart design to the outside.

Then I went through adding TPU to help protect and retain the controller. The bumpers that hold the face of the controller up were shorted and turned into pegs for TPU bumpers to be pushed onto. The bottom wings were heightened and retention grooves added for TPU “wipers” that retain the controller in the case and against the face bumpers. The tight tolerances mean the TPU has to compress to fit the controller in, resulting in a satisfying snap action on my printed version.

To Print this Cover

Cover Body

I used PLA, PETG/ABS/ASA should all work fine too.

Print with the outside face on the print bed

0.2mm layer height

3 Perimeters

30% Adaptive Cubic infill

No supports required

TPU Parts

TPU of course, wouldn't recommend “TPU for AMS” you want something soft here.

Print upside down (auto-orient in your slicer should do this for you)

0.2mm layer height

2 perimeters

5% 3D Honeycomb infill (mostly because you want the top of the bumpers to be almost hollow)

No supports required
