Why This Adapter

The original adapter that holds the jaws allows sharpening angles between approximately 15° and 30°. This shorter adapter adds an extra 5°, enabling sharpening of knives with angles up to 35°.

I primarily made it for sharpening my Ontario SP1 knife, which has a blade angle of 35°.

NOTE: With these sharpeners, the actual angle decreases as you move away from the center of the knife toward the tip and the heel of the blade.

You can use a Level measuring tool on your mobile phone to measure the actual angle at each point.

Printing

  • PLA because of its rigidity
  • 0.20-0.25mm layer height
  • 30% gyroid infill
  • Supports everywhere

Additional parts

  • ⌀6mm x 10mm neodymium magnets (2x)
  • Instead of the magnets you can print two plastic pegs and rely on the friction fit
  • Move the jaws, with the thumb-screw and the PTFE washer from the original part to this one

KEEP THE ORIGINAL ADAPTER!

Alternative Magnet Sizes

The magnets should snugly fit into the holes. You can optionally use some glue to keep them in place. Ideally, the fit tight should be made tight enough to hold the magnets without the glue.

In case your magnets' dimensions differ, use the “Adapter for Custom Magnets.3mf” project file, and define the proper dimensions of the MagnetHole.

Make the hole 1.4 mm shorter than the actual magnet length, because it has to protrude for exactly 1.4 mm.
