I had a job that needed to cover the existing holes in the metal door frame from a HID mullion mount card reader.
Card readers on the inside of the building were removed. Customers answer was blue painters tape. I couldn’t leave it like that.
I measured the footprint where the old card reader was. Drew up the part in Plasticity, and printed one part to check. Printed in some ”free” Overton PLA black in color. Once first good part, turned out 3 more. PETG is probably a better choice. Just ran with what I had in the printer.
This print was designed using imperial inches as the unit of measure. If you import into PRUSA slicer, import as an Imperial units STL file.
I put a dab of superglue in each corner and glued to the door frame. Looks good. I did print it on a 3D textured print plate. The back of the print that attaches to the door frame is undercut to allow for any burrs from the holes. That way the cover can sit flat.
Customer thought it was Carbon Fiber at first look. They were very happy.
