I wanted to be able to 3D Print labels for my drives that were removable. If a drive goes I don't want to reprint the whole drive tray by printing right on it. After a few iterations I was able to come up with a design that allows printing the sleighs and labels without supports, and have a tight snap fit for the label, and left room for the drive retainer to still fit as intended.
My labels shows drives brand/model (western digital red), drive size and last chunk of serial number.
All settings and prints were done with a calibrate Bambu Lab A1, results may vary from printers, but here is all my info so you can copy and adjust as needed.
DRIVE SLEIGH
Printed on Bambu Lab A1 using a 0.4mm nozzle set to the default “0.20mm Strength” preset. Printed in Bambu Lab Black TPU (AMS)
DRIVE LABELS
Printed on Bambu Lab A1 using 0.4mm nozzle set to the "0.12mm High Quality" preset in Bambu Lab PLA Matte White and PLA Matte Black with the following changes
- Ironing > Top Surfaces
- Ironing Flow > 20 %
THINGS TO NOTE:
- For optimal lettering, print with a 0.2mm nozzle on a smooth plate, face down, and set the text thickness to 0
- All my settings were based around printing my labels face up as I have a Textured PEI plate and it tends to distort the fonts when printed face down.
- I have the font thickness set to 0.2mm for a bit of texture and separation
- .3mf label file includes the label text. STL's will need to add your own text, but I just added from my slicer.
- Labels are tapered on sides so be aware of your orientation. Flip them over if you wish you print font on the bed's surface.
- Labels may appear to stay bent at first insert, just remove and reinsert a few times to wear in the ridges and it will sit flat.
