Brackets to store filament neatly in a Ikea TROFAST unit.  Note that this is designed to work with the white ones with the plastic runners.  You could adapt it for the wooden ones by making a negative space to remove the external runner guides.

  • Uses Irja curtain rails cut to 16 7/16" / 417mm lengths.  These are the cheapest rails I could find in Ikea.  They also fit into the runners on a Trofast
  • Double provide for storing filament on.  Spaced at 152mm centres this will neatly catch a full size 200mm spool as well as the smaller 150mm spools.  Also a good spacing to hold a cardboard box stable flat or diamond.
  • Single provided for a back stop.  Not really needed for loose spools but if you are putting boxed filaments in then it will stop the box sliding off into the void.
  • Two variants of each provided, one that uses an M3 Threaded Brass Insert (TBI) and another that can be tapped for an M3 bolt.  The TBI version could possibly be tapped for an M5 bolt if you were that way inclined.
  • No supports required.

Please note that there is quite a variance in tolerance of the Irja curtain rails, so the tolerance for the hole is a balance.  It may be quite tight on some poles but a bit of work with a deburring tool will get it going.  If you need to use force, Don't put all the weight on the runner guide and try to twist the pole as you push it in.

I recommend printing with minimum of 3 perimeters for strength.

Check out the fantastic remix by GilL Meister.  Shorter lengths which allow really neat space optimisation of naked spools!
