This is a hinged sun shade for an iPad 11”. It is designed to use the built in magnets for the Apple pencil pro. Once printed you will need to press in four, 5mm diameter by 3mm (they could be taller than 3mm) neodymium magnets in opposing polarity (it’ll take some testing to get it right). It might work a little better to use a 4mm diameter magnet but the model would need updating to accommodate that (I only have 5mm diameter magnets on-hand). Just make sure they're 5mm wide and at least 3mm tall.
To be clear, this sun shade will snap into your ipad just like an apple pencil pro - it will be super easy to quickly pop it on and use it and also pull it off once you're away from the ballgame.
This lets me hang the iPad off the fence and snap the sun shade down. its function over form but it’s not too ugly 😀
Printed at .2mm layer height using white PETG, the idea is to be durable and heat resistant and not attract more sun light than absolutely necessary. My ipad is in one of those cheap rugged cases and I hang it from a baseball fence hook and use a small bungee cord to keep it tight against the fence. So, why on earth would you print this?
- Keep the sun out - your iPad will absorb heat via the screen and may throttle or lower the brightness if the screen gets overheated.
- Battery - if you cover the ambient light sensor then the iPad thinks it's dark and keeps the brightness low (it's just hanging on the fence anyhow). If you need to check anything just raise the screen up a few inches and the brightness will come back.
- Protect the screen from dust and other flying particles - it isn't going to do much other than keep a little dust off. I choose to also put a tempered glass screen protector over the iPad.
