A filament dry box that mounts to the side of the Elegoo Centauri carbon based on the design of @NaNO3 which was originally based on @Yanev's parametric toolbox. I have included versions for the lid that work with or without the addition of a hygrometer. I also have included magnetic and m3 screw mount dessicant mounting points but have not yet designed a desiccant box.
Update V2 now included, dessicant holder for V1 and V2:
New version should be much more rigid (walls now 50% thicker, have more robust hinge design and dual/triple hinges with a dual latch closure. Instructions are largely the same. If you do not have 30-45 mm m3 screws use the lid variant for 10-16 mm. Total material use is roughly 750 g.
Desiccant holder added- I have not printed it yet but it should work. It affixes with 6x3 magnets and/or an m3 screw- there is a 0.2 breakthrough layer on the screw hole so this should be printed without support.
Update 9/3/25: slight modification to latches on V2 to resolve an issue with tolerance, and change to dessicant holder height and snaps.
DUE TO LICENSE CONFLICTS THE SPOOL HOLDER IS A SEPERATE MODEL AVAILABLE HERE
You will need the following hardware:
- 2x 4mm Push fit ECAS connectors (example)- optional but very helpful, required for using the filament detector mount.
- 1x 45 mm round hygrometer (example)- optional, used with the hygrometer lid variant.
- 3x M5x20 SHCS
- 2x M3x40 SHCS or BHCS, and 1x M3x50.
- 3x M5 nuts, nylock preferred
- 4x M3 4mm length heatset inserts- two optional for the desiccant box, two optional for securing the spool holder to the box when it isn't screwed into the side of the Centauri carbon w/ the M5s
- 2x 6x3mm voron-sized, or thinner 6x1.5mm disk magnets- optional but can be used to help secure desiccant boxes.
- some TPU filament or similar material for a gasket for the dry box and hygrometer
- the associated hardware and prints for the spool model linked above
Instructions:
- if desired glue magnets and/or insert headset inserts if desired into the mounting points inside the spool holder for desiccant storage (desiccant holders will be uploaded later)
- detach built in support from the spool holder body and lid if you are using the with hygrometer variant
- insert ECAS connectors into the filament box and filament detector mount, remove filament detector mounting hardware and remount detector in the printed part.
- optional: add TPU filament in the groove of the filament box body and lid if you are using the hygrometer lid version, the locations to insert TPU are shown in red below. Insert hygrometer into lid

- Attach lid to body using an M3x50 screw, and latch to the lid using M3x40 screws, add another screw for the latch point on the body.
- remove original spool holder and replace the original mount inside the printer attach the printed mount
- Screw 3x M5x20mm SHCS through the spool holder body (linked model), the dry box body, the centauri-carbons body, into m5 nuts inserted into the back side of the printed mount from the last step
- attach roller and endcap to the spool holder body (linked model), screw the endcap on
Reccomendations/Issues:
PLA+ at minimum is recommended with 5 walls. There is a tradeoff on material stiffness, CF-filled filaments may be too brittle for the hinges, but nylons may be too flexible to keep the sides square. I may revise the model to improve hinge strength and wall rigidity in the future. Desiccant container will be added after design testing. The free hanging filament detector is a bit ugly but probably offers the lowest resistance path possible given the short length of cable.
