Overview:
The BreezeShade is a window insert that is designed to work with roller shades that blocks more than 99.9% of light while allowing about 90 as much airflow as equaly sized opening. This is achieved by allowing air to flow through curved channels. That light can not pass trough.
Printing instructions
Depending on the size of your window you need to print differnt parts.
Print the following from black filament. The parts need to be printed upright and without supports.
LI Channel
RI Channel
2x RO Channel (1 as is and one mirrored)
If your window is wider than 80 cm you can extend the BreezeShade by 20 cm for each RM channel you add. (mirror half of them for symmetry)
Print the following from a color of your choise (we recomend white to minimize heating up in the sun). These Part should be printed flat on the bed:
2x LI Frame(one as is and one mirrored)
2x RI Frame(one as is and one mirrored)
as many other frame peices as you need. Frame at the bottom and top of the breezeShade should be as wide as your window. make sure to include a toral of 4 End-frames.
2x Side Screen(one as is and one mirrored)
as many standart Screens until you have one Screen for every Channel (including Side screens)
4x Hook(2 as is and 2 mirrored)
4x Holder(2 as is and 2 mirrored)
All parts need to be printed from a heat resitant filament. In most of the US and central and northern europe PETG should be fine. In hotter regions or with frequent prolonged exposure to direct sunlight ABS/ASA or even higher temp materials may be necessary.
The Parts are toleranced for modern well tuned printers (0.12 mm gap for firm sliding fit)Stepfiles uploaded feel free to modify tolerances, please upload if you do.
The channel parts may shake when printed on a bedslinger, this will decrese print quality and can lead to printfailure. To minimize this place the parts perpendicular the direction of movement (y-axis), the internal geometry is stiffer in this direction. Also decrease y-axis acceleration (aprox. 10% of the default is a good starting point)
The model benefits from slower printspeeds on all printers. We recommend you max out line width and layer hight and decrease speed an accelrations accordingly.
Assemble the hooks and holders like in the picture with M3 screews.
Connect the Channels by sliding thogether the vertical dovetails were aplicable.
Slide all framepieces onto the horizontal dovetails at top and bottom, this also connects all the Channels together.
Click the sreens onto each Channel.
Srew in the hooks and holders at both ends.
Place the BreezeShade on your outside window sill, screens facing out. Adjust the width by sliding the Channels against one another. Put the hooks against the outside of the Channel your rolershades are guided in and tighten the 4 sreews to press the BreezeShade firmly against the windowframe. Lower your rolershades until they sit on the BreezeShade. use foam tape to seal any gaps that allow light to come in.
