This is the first design I published.

After using filament from the PolyDryer box from Polymaker, I had to open it again and lost quite a bit of the dryness inside. So, time for a solution.

I designed a magnetic spool holder with only 2 strong magnets in it to rewind the filement without opening the box. And a holder with an even  stronger magnet in it.

The magnets in the spool have a diameter of 20 mm, a height of 3 mm, and a holding force of 4.3 kg. The direction of the magnets must fit that of the magnet in the holder, so they attract each other.

The magnet in the holder is a screw in type with a diameter of 23 mm , a height of 4 mm, and a holding force of 6.5 kg.

The magnet in the holder is covered by a piece of fabric to prevent scratches on the Polymaker drybox.

The screw thread is based on the Spool Holder https://www.printables.com/model/15396-spool-holder. The rest is my own design.

To prevent the filament of going in the box completely, I use the PolyDryer port plug https://www.printables.com/model/1002154-polydryer-port-plug-and-filament-holder

You should place the part with magnets as in the pictures, in that case the coupling is tightened during winding up. If you put them on the other side, there is a chance that the coupling will become loose.

Sometimes you need to shake the box a little bit to move the spool with magnets to the side of the box, otherwise the distance will be to big for the magnetic coupling with the magnetic holder.

Some spools work more smooth than others, but it worked until now with plastic as well as paper based spools.

This movie demonstrates how it works: https://www.deltapvs.com/3D-printing/rewinder_demo.mov

Update 5Dec2025:

Some spools roll less smoothly, therefor a stronger magnet holder was needed. So I add a model that can hold 2 of the same magnets (picture of the amber holder). The cover of this holder is the same as of the holder with one magnet.

Printing

I used PETG as filament.

Printing height was 0.20 mm to get a smooth screw thread.
