I used 3 x 4.5mm 304 stainless steel Balls, a micro switch, and a JST plug to create a screw on runout filament sensor. Just unscrew 8way filament sensor, put this in place of the collar it connects too. I printed it a 1.0mm layer height on my SV08 using a CoPrint head, but having it made it aluminum is a possible next step.
UPDATE: PLA is not strong enough! Testing other materials.
UPDATE2: Nylon is holding up good. I have done several prints and so far it's working perfectly.
UPDATE3: Version 3 works well with ABS at 100% infill, however the connector on the bottom I used a M10x0.5 die to fix the threads, V3 is printed with M11x0.5 so there is plenty of byte holding it in. V2 is printed with the correct M10x0.5 but on my K1 the threads were not gripping so I printed them larger with V3 and used the die to cut them down to the correct size. I left both incase you want to see if your printer can handle the clearances.
V2 and V3 are the same except the thread size connecting to the tool head. I made it a little taller over V1 so it wouldn't wobble as the tubes move from side to side when the tool head is moving. All 3 version detect filament runout perfectly.
