I have spent hours and hours trying to make the spools rotate, but they wouldn't. You name it - I tried it. Finally, I noticed that when the roll/bearing assembly was out of the box it rolled just fine, whilst inside of the box it didn't. It took a while before I figured why…
The original frame when installed in my boxes makes the spool touch the inner front of the box. This is especially case when using "flat" or “square” profile filament rolls like Prusament or Plasty Mladec. Spools like Aurapol with round profile barely do not touch.
So I designed my own frame, with a lip in the front, which pushes the roll/bearing assembly slightly towards the back of the box, hence removing the friction in the front. My design is original work not using the original source files, so it is not super perfect, but does the trick for me. Love it or hate it, I am happy my spools now rotate!
