Bit of a mash-up/redesign of a few models pulled together into one setup. Seems near impossible to find any box's that will fit a spool with room to spin here in Aus and couldn't find anything for a horizontal design so threw this together
It's far from perfect but seems to do the job so far. Can run it simply with just the bearing model which I've found to be easier for TPU or with the auto-rewinder to make life a bit easier.
The box's I've used are 28.5cm x 22cm x 10.5cm which comfortably fit the base and the desiccant box. As far as constructing the box goes, I've just used double-sided tape under the centre and on the pads at each tip of the base and the desiccant box can sit freely or just glue/double-sided tape the brace in .
For all models the exploded images should be enough to put them together.
Rewinder Model
For the rewinder model hardware is as below:
- Metallic spring (like out of a retractable badge pen/ID reel)
- 4 x 608 bearings
Instructions to put the rewinder together are laid out pretty clearly by the original creator here https://www.printables.com/model/678300-compact-spool-auto-rewinder , however the bearing at the base does sit outside on this model. Additionally, only 2 C-clips are needed here as the one at the base is replaced with the adapter. Just make sure the top side of the adapter with the small ring is the side that touches the bearing.
The platform to support the spool should slide on pretty snug and the top cap does leave a gap below for the rewinder to spin, however it doesn't serve any real purpose other than securing the top c-clip a little better and looking a bit nicer. There are adapters to be placed around the base to centre the spool on the platform.
Bearing Model
For the bearing model, it's pretty self explanatory. Only hardware needed is a 608 bearing that fits in the centre of the base. After that the joiner goes in the base of the platform and in the centre of the bearing. There are also seperate adapters for centring the spool on the platform.
Desiccant Box
The desiccant box is very simple. There is zero tolerance between the lid and the box so it is a snug fit without having to worry about any clips. The slot for the hygrometer is a Separate piece that I just glued on but feel free to have a crack at reworking it.
