Decorative “Check Engine” neon sign, designed for 3D printing and LED backlighting. It consists of two parts:
- Bottom part (base) – the base, which includes a cavity for an LED strip.
- Top part (diffuser) – a translucent cover that, once assembled, diffuses the light and glows in a warm orange tone, creating a true neon-like effect.
Assembly and Lighting
There is a square opening at the back of the base, designed for inserting wires or fitting the LED strip connector.
The LED strip should be attached along the inner edge of the lower part for even illumination across the entire sign.
If the thin top layer of the print turns out uneven or not fully opaque, it’s recommended to cut the same shape out of a white A4 sheet and glue it from the inside. This will help diffuse the light evenly, giving a smooth, uniform glow.
Printing Recommendations
Filament:
Bottom part – black PLA (or any opaque filament)
Top part – white or milky-white PLA (translucent for better light diffusion)
Layer height: 0.2 mm
Infill: 15–20% (sufficient for stability)
Supports: Not required (both parts are designed to print without supports)
Final Effect
Once assembled and illuminated, the sign creates a neon-style glow effect, perfect as a decoration for a room, workshop, garage, or an office of any car enthusiast.
