This is my take on a (sleightly overengineered) Asian Hornet trap.
My parents are beekeepers and they struggle day and night with Asian Hornets attacking their bees. They asked me to create a trap that is easy, efficient and fast to print in batches, while providing multiple ways of setting them up. This way we can help our local beekeepers.
I made this trap for the most common honey/jam jars in Belgium. I assume these jars are the same in many european countries but you should check before you print. If you have a suggestion to make a variant for a jar size thats common in your country, please let me know.
This trap allows for 4 different setups
- standing upright
- standing on an angle
- hanging upright
- hanging on an angle
while some believe its best to have the trap with its hole upright, others prefer to put them sideways. By hanging them up, you can avoid ants getting into your lure.
I advise to use vibrant and bright colors that resemble fruits; Orange, red, yellow, green, …
UV-Filament might work better, it's just a thought and I have not tested it yet.
