I just got my first printer, the AD5X and know almost nothing about 3D printing or 3D design.

I ordered a bunch of Geeetech filament and discovered the hole in the spools was way too large for the spindles on the AD5X.

I downloaded 1 adapter meant for the A1 I think but because it only had a flange on 1 side of the adapter it was not holding the Geeetech spools securely. There may be other adapters that would work but I wasn't finding anything and I figured it was a good first project anyway.

So, I watched some videos and figured out how to create my own using FreeCAD.

The adapter has 2 parts which screw together and results in a flange on both sides of the spool holding it securely in place.

Note that the screw has only 1 start so you must get it lined up properly for it to screw in. As long as your print is relatively clean it should screw together easily. I think I left about .2mm clearance between the threads but again I'm only a beginner and I'm not positive about it.

I used Orca Slicer 2.3.1 and my printer has Zmod 1.6.2 installed.

Printed with Geeetech PETG .2mm layers, .4 nozzle, 5% infill and 215C.

Hopefully it's helpful for someone. Any tips to improve it are appreciated!

Edit:

I just printed another one and I'd recommend screwing/unscrewing at least 5 times before putting it on.

It seems like it can get cross threaded easily. I'll try to rework the threads and upload a new version when I have a chance.
