My first attempt to light my FLsun SR's build plate had insufficient cooling, the leds eventually failed. So I'm doing it slightly differently with the same leds : I discarded the heat sinks which appeared to be too small (at least for long-term usage within an enclosure and without active cooling) and use the printer's aluminium frame as heat sink instead.

The new model has an additional small retainer part to secure the led and wiring before mounting in the column (and provide electric insulation). So, electric tape is no longer required. When clipping the assembly, the side “springs” push the led against the back of the extrusion with just enough force. They are easy to remove if necessary.

This seems to provide much better cooling. I tested both versions at the same time: after a minute, the first version's heat sink is hot (though I can still leave my finger on it), but if I remove the new version from the column and immediately touch the back of the led, it's not even warm. And the difference can only increase while printing in the enclosure, as the aluminium extrusion will always be colder than the  enclosed air.

Finally, the new version is completely contained in the extrusion, so it's less visible. Idon't particularly like the shade's new shape, but it's design to optimally bound the beam according to the build area to avoid dazzling.

I just hope this time the leds will last more than a few days…
