Akatosh in D&D 5e: The Eternal Wyrm

Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Domains: Time, Order, Knowledge, Light
Symbol: A stylized dragon coiled around an hourglass
Pantheon Role: The Prime Deity of Time and Continuity

Cosmic Role

Akatosh is the First Dragon, the embodiment of linear time and the unbroken flow of causality. In this D&D setting, he is the architect of the Chronos Weave, the metaphysical lattice that binds all planes to the concept of past, present, and future. Without Akatosh, reality would collapse into a chaotic sea of simultaneous moments.

He is revered as the Keeper of Eternity, ensuring that mortals and gods alike remain subject to the march of time. His influence is absolute—no magic can truly undo time, only bend it briefly, for Akatosh will always restore the balance.

Appearance

Akatosh manifests as a colossal dragon of shimmering golden scales, each scale inscribed with runes representing moments in history. His eyes burn like twin suns, and his wings ripple with constellations. When he speaks, his voice echoes across centuries, heard in dreams and omens.

Dogma

  • Time is sacred. Every moment is a thread in the tapestry of existence; to sever it is heresy.

  • Order sustains reality. Chaos seeks to unravel the Chronos Weave; mortals must uphold law and continuity.

  • Dragons are his children. They are fragments of his essence, guardians of temporal stability.

Followers

Akatosh’s clergy are known as Chronomancers or Wardens of the Hourglass. They maintain great Time Sanctums, where ancient clocks and planar sundials track the flow of eternity. His paladins swear the Oath of Continuity, vowing to prevent catastrophic temporal disruptions.

Mythic History

  • The First Breath: Akatosh exhaled time into the void, creating the first dawn.

  • The Sundering of Eternity: When primordial chaos sought to freeze all moments into one, Akatosh birthed the first dragons as temporal anchors.

  • The Pact of Continuity: Akatosh bound the other gods to the Chronos Weave, ensuring that even divine beings cannot escape time’s judgment.

Creatures that fail are also aged 1d100 years (DM decides effects).

  • Reverse Flow: Heal 100 HP and rewind the last 6 seconds (undoing one creature’s last action).
