Here's an awesome semi truck for your hot wheels farm/highway/truckstop scene! Or in reality it can be whatever you want it to be. There is a possibilty of variations in the future, and there is a few expiramental files that I haven't tried yet. The names on the expiramental files are fairly self explanetory, except perhaps the Full Cab. The Full Cab has the whole cab in one print, as opposed to having the lower part of the hood and fenders on the Chassis, as the regular model is. I should also mention that the King Pin hitch is designed to fit ERTL semi trailers.
For my truck I started with the Peterbilt_Cab_single_air_intake, and then when I was close to being finished I dropped it and the stacks broke off. After that happened it was suggested that the truck would look better with dual air intakes. After that I decided to give options of the truck with zero stacks and zero intakes, as well as options with all of them directly on the model. (All of the Cabs other than the Peterbilt Cab_single_air_intake are un-printed and expiramental) That gives the oppertunity to print the parts directly in silver as opposed to simply painting them silver. Another thing I did when I printed the stacks seperately was hollowing out the stacks so that I could glue a paperclip inside the stack to give it better structural integrity. I have added a picture of the glueing process; I was able to just pump the stack full of clear gorilla glue and then slide in the paperclip. I have dropped the truck after adding the reinforced stacks, on the same floor, and the stacks remained solid. I have not provided a model of the whole exhaust system seperated or the fuel tanks, but that is definately a future possibility.
This truck was also my first model that I used wood filler on. I think that will be a fairly common thing from here on out, as a smooth finish is incredibly valuable for realistic models. That, however, is completely optional. The paint was just a simple acrilic paint, and instead of using my standard silver sharpie, I went with silver paint on this model. Using silver paint allowed me to get some into tighter spots than a sharpie, and it provided more of a chrome look. I did use the silver sharpie as a base colour for the clearance lights (the roof lights) and the headlights. I sharpied them silver and then used an orange and a yellow sharpie, respectively. I used a red sharpie for the Peterbilt logo on the grill.
The axles are my traditional straightened paperclips, gently textured by pliers with wire cutters, and then superglued into the wheels.
Please upload makes and remixes! Happy printing!
EDIT
I have printed Peterbilt_Cab_no_intakes_no_stacks, and can confirm that it printed quite well!
