Suggested Print Settings
The following settings are suggestions based on general FDM printing practices to maximize strength. These are not guarantees of durability or performance. Factors such as filament quality, printer calibration, and environmental conditions will affect the final result.
Orientation (Crucial): It is strongly suggested to print the part on its side. This ensures the layer lines run along the length of the hook rather than across it, reducing the risk of the hook snapping off when the gate pulls on it.
Material: PETG, ABS, or ASA are suggested.
Note: Standard PLA is generally discouraged as it is brittle and can deform (creep) under the constant tension of a retractable gate.
Walls/Perimeters: 4–6 walls minimum (wall strength is generally more important than infill density for this type of part).
Infill: 40%–100%.
Installation Tip
Because this is a flush mount, the gate pulls directly against the screws. For maximum safety, ensure you are mounting into a wall stud or using heavy-duty toggle bolts. Avoid using cheap plastic "expansion" anchors if possible.
Do not over-tighten the mounting screws. Excessive torque can act as a wedge, causing the 3D-printed layers to split or the internal structure to crush during installation. Tighten until snug and secure, but do not force them. As with the print settings, this tip is a suggestion and does not constitute a guarantee of durability or performance.
