This is a remix of the Wifi Control Mod for UGREEN Switching USB Hub by @kn100.
While the original project was designed for the USB 3.0 version, I have successfully tested it with the USB 2.0 variant, so it seems that the PCB dimensions for the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 variants are identical in their dimensions and mouting holes
I also used another microcontroller and components I had lying around. It shouldn't be hard to adapt this to every other microcontroller you have.
Changes compared to the original design
Decreased the distance between the USB ports and case - especially the microUSB Port wasn't accessible for my cables as it was sitting too deep in the case.
Added filets (rounded corners)
Changed the slot size for the cables, made it “open” so a 4-pin connector shouldn't be that necessary anymore. Gets closed using the esp housing part.
Changed the screws to countersunk M2.5 screws (4x M2.5x5 and 4x M2.5x20) and inserts (had M2.5 with OD of 3.5mm and length of 2mm here)
Made the case a bit wider to better fit with the M2.5 screws (and the corners of the board, had to file round edges on mine so they fit the original design)
Added my Fusion360 Source file - should be mostly adjustable using the parameters
Used an ESP8266 instead of an ESP32
Also used an SS8050 NPN instead of the BC327 PNP
Different Resistors
All this shouldn't really matter though
The Wiring Diagram
This setup uses a Wemos D1 Mini and an SS8050 NPN transistor. I added a 10kΩ pulldown to ensure the hub doesn't "ghost switch" during the ESP8266 boot sequence.
