After the plastic housing one of my bed tramming/leveling knobs broke off randomly during a print, I contacted Bambu Labs to see if I could get a replacement. Long story short, they don't sell the knobs separately, you'd have to buy the entire bed assembly. I was kindly told by customer care that I could tram the bed without the plastic housing by turning the knurled insert with broken plastic on it. While technically true, it's a pain both literally and figuratively.
After accepting the fact that Bambu doesn't love me as much as I have loved their printers, I set out to find a replacement. None of the usual model sites had anything I liked , so I decided to created my own. Isn't that why we got into 3D printing in the first place?!? I made this version a little taller so it's easier to grab and turn, but otherwise very similar to the stock ones.
For printing, I used HT PLA and PETG, but PETG/ABS/ASA would all be good options since you are near the heated bed. I printed these as solid pieces (100% infill with 5-6 walls). They only use around 2g of filament, so wanted the added strength.
There are two versions (Narrow and Insert). You can use each of them per the instructions below:
Insert Version (recommended): The hole is set to accommodate an M5 knurled (melt in) insert and is large enough to help align the insert. I found the M5 x 8mm long worked best. The larger opening prevents melted plastic from clogging the threads in the insert.
Narrow Version: You can use this version if you'd like to thread the part itself (with a tap or self tapping screw). You'll need standard M5 threads. I tried the insert on this version and it clogs up with plastic and is unusable without a lot of effort to clean it.
I hope you find the model useful and give it a like it you do!
Happy printing!
