Dual-Shell Case for "Papershoot" Camera
I've designed a custom, two-part case system for the "Papershoot" camera, addressing the lack of similar models online. This design focuses on modularity, protection, and customization.
Features & Design Philosophy
This system consists of two distinct parts that work together:
Part 1: The Inner "Slim" Shell
Primary Protection: A thin, easily assembled/disassembled internal case designed to be the main protective layer.
Minimalist Profile: Keeps the camera sleek when used on its own.
Part 2: The Outer "Pro Grip" Shell
Ergonomics: A larger, external grip shell inspired by professional cameras, making the "Papershoot" much more comfortable to hold and shoot with.
Customization Canvas: The outer shell is designed to be a blank canvas for personalization. It’s perfect for applying custom decals, stickers, engraved text, or unique paint jobs.
Intentional Design Choices
I made specific choices regarding port access for enhanced durability:
Weather Resistance: All ports (USB, SD card slot) are intentionally covered to provide maximum protection against the elements (snow, light rain). This makes the camera safer to use outdoors.
Portability/Safety: The fully closed design also means you can carry the camera safely in a bag or purse without worrying about debris or accidental damage.
LED Indicators: Note that there are no cutouts for the LED indicators in this specific design.
Future Improvements & Community Collaboration
The current design is functional, but not perfect. There is room for enhancement!
Possible future upgrades could include:
LED Access: While intentional for weather sealing, cutouts for the indicator LEDs could be added (you can manually add these with a drill and hot glue for a sealed finish if needed).
Included Files for Easy Modification:
For those interested in upgrading the design or creating their own remixes, I have included the original STEP file along with the standard STL files for 3D printing. This allows you to easily import the solid model into your preferred CAD software and modify it without starting from scratch.
I hope this project inspires others. Perhaps someone in the community will take interest in upgrading these features, or maybe even design entirely new case concepts. If interest is high enough, I might revisit the design myself in the future.
Printing & Assembly Notes
Printing Recommendations
Material: The material choice is flexible (PLA, PETG, ABS all work fine).
Infill: 10% infill or higher is recommended.
Layer Height: Adjust layer height to your personal preference (quality vs. speed).
Supports: Supports were used in my tests to ensure the best surface quality, but they may not be strictly necessary depending on your printer setup.
Assembly
No extra hardware needed: The assembly requires no screws, glue, or additional components.
Friction Fit: The parts are designed with a tight tolerance for a secure friction fit.
Tolerances: The clearances were tuned for my specific printer and filament, but the design should accommodate typical variations across different machines without issue.
