Since there are no replacement buttons available for the Fairphone 6 - and the original button is hard to access - I designed this drop-in replacement. It fits well, feels almost identical to the original, and installs without opening the phone.
Printing recommendations:
Print on a smooth (plain) PEI plate, or use a raft if you’re printing on a textured PEI plate. Rafts may be helpfull for small part adherence either way.
Material: PLA (I used Anycubic Fast Gray PLA)
Settings I used:
Layer height: 0.12 mm
Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Textured PEI plate + Raft: 2
Printer: Anycubic Kobra S1
Quiet mode (slower print = better accuracy… yes, I see the irony)
Fitting the button
I recommend gradually sanding one side of the printed button until it fits snugly in the volume button opening.
If it’s too loose, it will wobble/flop around.
If it’s too tight, it can get stuck.
How I tested the fit:
I inserted the button upside down into the opening and checked whether I needed to apply force. As soon as it slid in smoothly and came out cleanly, it was ready.
Installation
Slightly bend the longer edge.
Slide that longer edge toward the metal mount.
Insert the other side and push it into position.
Once aligned, press it in—the bent part should snap back and lock the button in place.
It should slide in without force.
Removal: Use tweezers to grab the longer side of the button and pull it out.
