System 573 Shockbox
This is a shockbox-style case for System 573 CDs and security cartridges, designed after the Amaray-style DVD case format. It provides a durable, unified storage solution for protecting discs and cartridges while offering a professional, shelf-friendly presentation similar to commercial DVD cases—ideal for collectors who want consistent, protective housing for their System 573 media.
Supports both T-style security cartridges and smaller standard cartridges using an included adapter. Black and blue filament are recommended to match the System 573 color scheme. The mid-section is designed to help most printers produce a reliable interlocking fit.
To assemble both halves, I recommend applying two-part epoxy to the mating faces of the tabs, closing the case, and placing a light weight on top while curing. This allows for a nice and secure bond.
Front Clear Cover
Use A3 polypropylene wallets, approximately 100 microns thick.
Cut to roughly 310 mm × 185 mm.
Apply 2mm wide double-sided tape onto the edges of the long side of the film.
Line up to the top and bottom edge of the case whilst closed.
Line up the edges of the film so that film is roughly 2mm from the edge of the case on both sides.
Once in position, lie the case on the spine so the film is "clamped", then remove the tape backing.
Fold the film back up so it lays flat along the plastic face and follows the case but is not tight.
Stick the taped edges down, making sure it is straight!
Once the tape is secure, open the case flat and the film should be loose and slightly bowing. Insert your artwork.
Done!
I only recommend print a flat build plate. On textured beds, the tape may not adhere well; glue may be required. Plastic welding is possible but not recommended for health concerns.
Material Notes
The design uses printed plastic as a living hinge. It performs adequately, but is more fragile than original polystyrene Amaray cases. Stronger plastics than PLA are recommended. PLA is fine for general used if the case is not opened frequently and is handled carefully.
If CDs feel tight, gently flexing the case can help release them. Layer lines will add friction so it will not feel as smooth as Amaray-style DVD cases.
Remixing
You are allowed to remix! Please make sure to attribute your remix properly. You may only remix under the same non-commercial license, but otherwise feel free to adapt how you see fit!
License / Usage
This project is provided strictly for personal, non-commercial use. It is intended only for individuals who wish to create cases for their own private collections.
You may not sell, distribute, license, or otherwise commercialise this design or any derivative of it. This includes, but is not limited to:
Selling printed cases (blank or assembled)
Selling cases bundled with artwork
Selling artwork alone
Selling modified or remixed versions of the design
The only permitted scenarios involving resale is when an individual sells their own original game from their personal collection on the second-hand market, and the case is included purely as packaging for that specific item. The case itself must not be treated as a separate product or value-added commercial item.
A second permitted scenario applies when an end user does not have the ability to print the case themselves. In this situation, the user may provide these files to a third-party printing service solely to obtain prints for their own personal collection. The printing service may charge only for material usage and machine time. They are not permitted to sell the case as a product, advertise it, or treat it as a commercial item. Permission is not given for the service provider to produce more cases after the user has received their order.
Printing cases for friends or distributing cases free of charge is also permitted, provided all prior conditions are met and no commercial activity or compensation is involved.
Any form of mass production, commissioned sales, or marketplace listing of the case or related artwork from this model page is explicitly prohibited.
