Textured Waffle Paddle (Modular Handle + Head)

A 3D-printable modular paddle with a waffle-style texture designed to leave a clear, consistent imprint while keeping edges smooth and comfortable. The model is split into a handle and paddle head for easier printing and material flexibility (for example: ASA handle, PETG head).

NOTE: I continue to improve and expand on this design and will add new iterations/designs to this listing as they are ready for release. Anyone who purchases this will automatically be given access to new designs.

Files included

  • Paddle head (waffle texture)

  • Paddle head variant with heart/inlay

  • Matching handle

Print notes (recommended)

  • For a smoother, cleaner face: use concentric top layers, slower top-surface speed, and consider adaptive layer height around the bevels

  • PETG works great for the paddle head when your priority is surface finish

  • For best durability at the handle junction: print the handle in a tougher material (ASA/PC blend if available) and use generous perimeters

  • While it should not be necessary, I added a 50% infill modifier to the handle where it connects to the paddle head in order to increase structural integrity (see .3mf slicer layout).

Safety and use

  • Intended for consenting adults and responsible use

  • Inspect for sharp edges after printing, and sand/polish if needed

  • Do not use on broken skin or if the part is cracked

Design approach (why it feels and prints the way it does)

This paddle was designed to balance a clear imprint with a smoother, more comfortable strike.

  • Broader contact area, not just “sharp texture.” The face is intentionally wide so the impact is spread out more than a narrow paddle, while still leaving a distinct pattern.

  • Raised “studs” with recessed channels. The waffle texture uses raised areas to make contact, with recessed grooves between them. Those grooves help create a crisp imprint and also allow a little air to move during impact, which helps avoid a harsh “vacuum slap” feeling.

  • Softened edges everywhere that matters. Instead of sharp corners, the design uses gentle bevels and rounded transitions so the texture leaves a pattern without feeling like it’s cutting or scratching.

  • Tuned angles for comfort and consistency. The groove walls are shaped to create a clean imprint while keeping the edges from digging in. The goal is a predictable feel and a consistent mark, not “spiky” pressure points.

  • Clean outer bevels. The outer edges are beveled/rounded for comfort in the hand and to reduce any chance of sharp edges from printing.

In short: it’s meant to be patterned and effective, but still smooth enough to use responsibly with minimal finishing.

Assembly (Handle + Head)

This model is designed as a two-piece assembly so you can print the handle and head separately (and even in different materials).

Hardware required

  • (4) M4×14 steel hex socket head cap screws

  • (4) M4 nuts

Note: I used hardware from this set.

Assembly steps

  1. Test fit first. Before installing hardware, dry-fit the handle to the head and confirm the bolt holes line up cleanly.

  2. Insert screws. Push the M4×14 screws through the screw holes from the screw-head side.

  3. Install nuts. Place an M4 nut into each nut pocket/slot and start threading by hand.

  4. Tighten evenly. Tighten in a cross pattern (like lug nuts) so the parts seat evenly. Snug is enough. Do not overtighten, especially if printing in a more brittle material.

Print support requirements (to keep holes clean)

  • The screw holes and nut pockets are designed to work best when you use removable supports so the holes stay clean and true.

  • Add supports specifically where needed so:

    • Screw holes do not sag or “oval” during printing.

    • Nut pockets stay crisp so the nuts fully seat and don’t spin.

  • After printing, remove supports completely and clear any stringing:

    • Run an M4 screw through each hole by hand to confirm clearance.

    • If needed, lightly clean holes with a hobby knife or a 4 mm drill bit turned by hand (do not power-drill unless you’re careful).

Customization

  • Scale to taste. Larger face area spreads impact and creates a broader imprint.
