This is a 3 foot tall 2.6 inch (66 mm) diameter mid/high-power model rocket that uses 29mm rocket motors.
This rocket kit was created to test out electronics(Altimeter, tracker, chute release, etc). It is heavy but flys well on F50-6T motors or greater. I have personally flown the 3 fin version on an F50-6T, G74-6 ,G76-7G and a H128(checkout 4th picture) reload with a 6 second delay. The 6 fin version flies well on a G74-6.
Print recommendations:
I recommend printing all parts with PETG or ABS. Do not use PLA. 30% infill. .20 layer height.
To get the nose cone tip smooth I used variable layer height.
Print Nose cone, air frame, coupler, threaded insert, motor retainer cap and shock cord mount with internal brim.
Print fin units, right side up, with external and internal brim and Slim Tree supports, or print upside down(PREFERRED METHOD) with just internal brim and Slim Tree supports. It is important that you select "Support Critical Regions Only" otherwise you may find it difficult to remove the supports after the print is completed.
Print rail guides with external brim.
Print ebay, and threaded cap as is.
All parts glued with 5 minute epoxy for PETG. Use thick and slow CA for ABS.
The motor retainer threaded base is integrated into the fin unit section.
Print the following part quantities:
1 x nose cone
1 x Nose cone threaded insert
1 x threaded e-bay for nose cone insert
1 x Threaded cap for nose cone insert-optional
2 x Air frame tube ( I used only one air frame with the 6 fin unit)
2 x Air frame tube couplers
1 x Shock cord anchor
1 x 3 fin unit or 6 fin unit
1 x 29mm motor retainer cap
2 x Conformal rail guides
1 x Bulkhead Assembly (Optional, see step 12)
Additional items needed:
Kevlar shock cord
Parachute
Instructions:
1. READ STEP 1 COMPLETELY BEFORE GLUING.
Tie your shock cord to the loop on the shock cord anchor. Turn it upside down so it will go further into the fin unit. Push it all the way into fin unit until it hits the top of the motor tube. After gluing shock cord mount pull cord down through the motor tube so that you don't get epoxy on it for the remainder of the assembly.
2. Insert and glue one tube coupler into the fin unit. Push it all the way down until it hits the top of the shock cord anchor.
3. Glue one tube coupler half way into one of the air frame tubes.
4. Glue 2nd air frame tube onto the coupler from step 3.
5. Glue air frame assembly (from step 3 and 4) onto coupler from step 2.
6. Glue one conformal rail guide at base of fin unit between fins.
7. Glue second conformal rail guide above the joint of the fin unit and air frame assembly, in line with the other rail guide.
8. Glue threaded insert so that it is flush with bottom of nose cone.
9. Screw threaded ebay or cap into nose cone insert.
10. Screw motor retainer onto base of fin unit.
11. Drill a 1/16 inch vent hole above the top most rail guide.
12. THIS STEP IS OPTIONAL. Glue Bulkhead Assembly into an air frame tube If you want to create a payload section.
Thats it. Go fly and have fun.
UPDATES:
Uploaded updated tube coupler.
