THIS IS MY DESIGN PORTED FROM THINGIVERSE

This design was created in 2018. Now there are much better designs. Keep that in mind.

I designed a filament drybox to keep filament dry and clean. So far it hold up to 5 filament spool each 1 kg. There is room for 4 spools hanging from the pipe and 1 spool laying on horizontal spool holder (which you need to download separately - https://www.printables.com/model/1622980-slim-horizontal-spool-holder).

Shopping list:

  • Basic Box 29l from JYSK

  • 35 cm of PCV pipe 1" (33,4 mm outer diameter)

  • 8x M4 35 mm screws (or longer) [1]

  • 14x M4 10 mm screws (or longer)

  • 22x M4 nut

  • 44x M4 washer

  • 5x ~10 cm PTFE tube

  • Hygrometer (dimensions of mine was 45 x 27.5 mm)

  • Silicone gasket maker

  • 200 - 300 g of silica gel (best one would be with a marker)

  • Box for silica gel (smaller then 10x20x10 cm)

Printing list:

  • 2x inner_pipe_slot

  • 2x outer_pipe_slot

  • 5x outer_filament_socket

  • 5x inner_filament_socket

  • 2x hygrometer_frame

  • 2x pipe_plug

  • 1x horizontal_bottom

  • 1x horizontal_top

  • 1x gasket_shaper

  • 10x lid_clip

I also designed plugs if someone would like to change the location of filament sockets or hygrometer, Replace the outer part with the plug and place filament socket or hygrometer somwhere else.

[1] I used 30 mm long but I do recomend longer one

PLA. No rafts, no supports. Use brim or skirt. All holes for screws has diameter 4.5 mm.

Post-Printing

How to assemble:

  1. Buy and print everything you need.

  2. Drill (for every screw hole use 5 mm drill) holes for pipe slots. Inner pipe slot can be moved up and down if you need. Two top holes for screws was drilled around 12.5 cm from top of the box.

  3. Drill holes for hygrometer. Place it anywhere you want. I decided to put it under pipe slot. After drilling you will need to cut rectangle slightly larger then the size of hygrometer. Use knife for this but watch out. You can easly damage the box. I did so and had to designed larger hygrometer frame to cover the damage.

  4. Drill holes for filament sockets (for PTFE tube use 6-7 mm drill).

  5. Assemble pipe slots, hygrometer frame and filament sockets. Use silicone gasket maker around the holes (from inside and outside) to make everything tight. Put PTFE tubes in filament sockets. Use hot glue to attach pipe plugs.

  6. Take gasket shaper and box lid. Squiz some silicone into the groove of the lid (where it touches the box) and use gasket shaper to create aorund 2 mm thick gasket around the whole groove. Don't close the box with lid, you have to let it dry for 24 hours.

  7. Put together horizontal spool holder (slim or fat) and place in the box.

  8. Take small box and fill it with silica gel. Put it in JYSK box, near the spool holder.

  9. Put spools in the box. One at the bottom and 4 on the pipe. Push the filament through PTFE tube

  10. Close the whole box with lid. Put 10 lid clips around the edges of the box.

ENJOY
