I've used these little widgets to sand down everything from prototype models that need to look like injection moulded parts, to small areas of bodywork on my car after it was badly scratched.
The hard flat base means the sandpaper doesn't roll over any high spots like a finger would do and the method for holding gives a fine degree of control (see pictures). Wet and Dry sandpaper can be held under running water for super-fine results.
The sandpaper is held in place with double sided tape (see pictures). It's a bit of a faff but the results are worth it and somethimes the double sided tape can be used several times.
No support needed. The model can easily be scaled to suit your needs.
