I picked up a GMKtec K11 to be part of my home lab and was extremely underwhelmed with the original top/lid that came with it. I noticed that it restricted airflow so much that it created a noticeable whistle/whine sound.
I designed this to be a quick and easy replacement that greatly improves airflow and reduces sound. This replacement makes it easy to remove and reattach using magnets, so cleaning is much easier. It also mellows out the annoying RGB that cannot be disabled.
Parts required:
50g of PLA
4x round 6mm x 2mm neodymium magnets
A small piece of strong double sided tape (I used 3M 300LSE)
Notes:
PLA works fine for this, as it is not exposed to high heat.
Don't forget to pay attention to the polarity of your magnets before attaching.
Print takes about 4.5 hours on a MK3S.
You can probably get away with using super glue if you don't have tape. Just make sure you have good airflow while it's drying or you'll end up with white residue.
Build instructions:
Print with the outward (top) face down. This model was designed for that face to be on the build plate with the feet sticking up.
After printing, attach your magnets to the tape. Then cut the tape out around the magnets so it matches the shape. I recommend using an X-Acto knife. Make sure you pay attention to the polarity of your magnets.
