A simple protective case for your glasses or sunglasses.

the case has a sleek and functional design witch a magnetic latch mechanism that makes it easy to open one handed. Printed in 4 different parts it can be assembled with only 3 magnets and a spare bit of filament needed for the hinge. An optional insert with TPU can be printed to offer better protection for scratches

Materials

  • Three 12x3mm magnets, I used cheap ones from amazon and they work fine. if you have a different size laying around I'll gladly modify the files for it.

  • 140mm spare filament for the hinge, this is barely visible so the colour doesn't matter as much. 

  • (OPTIONAL) Superglue to hold the hinge and magnets in place.

  • (OPTIONAL) flex filament for insert

Instructions

  • Measuring your glasses. Chose the correct model based on the size of your glasses. You can expect about 5mm play in the size. if the size you need isn't available please contact me and I'll provide it. 

  • Print al the parts. No special settings, support not needed, default will do. I used 3 build plates (1 for each shell piece and 1 for the 2 latch pieces)

  • (OPTIONAL) Print the inserts. Use a flex filament (I used TPU 95A) to print the protective inserts

  • Assemble the magnets. Put 2 magnets in opposing orientation (1 attracting, 1 repelling) in the lid, use a drop of super glue if the press fit doesn't work for you. put your last magnet In the lever.

  • Assemble the liever. Use the separately printed pin to secure the lever to the clamshell part opposite to the magnets. make sure the magnet of the lever is facing up. use a drop of supper glue if the pin doesn't press fit in place.

  • Assemble the case. Connect the two halves by closing it down and inserting a piece of filament as hinge. you can pre cut the filament at a little under 140mm for the best result. ATTENTION, the filament can only be inserted from 1 side. If you printed the optional inserts you can insert them after assembly

  • Have fun with your new case!
