I am building several enclosed cabinets that will have electronics and other heat sources in them. I wanted a way to vertically mount an AC Infinity Multifan S2 to the inside walls of the cabinets. This is the result.
The model consists of three parts: 1) a router template that will allow you to route out the hole for the fan exhaust; 2) a fan mount that can be screwed to the side of the cabinet; and 3) a grill for the outside of the cabinet.
The fan mount holds the fan away from the side so that there is plenty of airflow into the fan.
In my case, I wanted the fan to exhaust downward, so the hole is cut into the floor of the cabinet with the fans mounted to the wall.
Mark where the wall of the cabinet will be and use the router template to trace out where the hole will be.
Route out the hole. I used a jigsaw to rough cut the hole and a top bearing pattern bit to finish removing the waste. I secured the template to the workpiece using double sided tape.
Put the fan mount into the hole and secure to the wall using screws. I used small #4 wood screws.
Mount the fan.
Secure the grill to the other side of the exhaust hole using silicone or other such sealant.
