I recently built a GPS-disciplined Stratum 1 NTP/PTP time server using a GPS module from SparkFun, which is connected via the GPIO header, and I wanted a way to mount it to my Raspberry Pi. I decided to make a HAT-shaped mounting plate.
My implementation uses a CM5 I/O Carrier Board, but as I followed the official Raspberry Pi HAT+ Specification, this mounting plate should fit anywhere a regular HAT would fit.
SparkFun make a myriad of GPS boards, but I only worked with two of them, so that's all I have to share:
I'm not doing the community a huge favor by sharing these, of course, but I put substantial effort into them, so I may as well share in case it might help someone. If I ever have a reason to make one for another model, I'll add it here.
These use M2.5 x H2.5 heatset inserts. They also have a cutout for a USB cable (oriented for convenience with the CM5 carrier board case), making it easy to troubleshoot or configure your module without having to remove it from the mounting plate.
