With the POP4 being quite a compact scanner It was clear for me that I wanted to just "throw" it in my backpack for scanning while being outdoors. Bringin the whole carrying case is sometimes simply a bit too much to carry.
Since I didn't want to either scratch the cameras or break the glass plate that covers the laser and IR emitters I designed a simple and in my opinion stylish cover that is printed from TPU to just slide on and stay securely in place.
The whole design is created around a 3d scan of the POP4 and was fully created in Quicksurface Pro, the new Parasolid-CAD-Kernel really shows compared to earlier versions (maybe will do a video talking about the design process itself at some point). There are two versions of the cover: The normal "POP4 Case" that looks very nice but is quite hard to print from TPU. Overhangs and especially support interfaces must be really tuned to print successfully (best print as oriented in the STL). The second version is called "POP4 Printable Case" and is as in the name a more printable version.
The normal version also has a separately printed stiffener that is glued to the TPU print, this adds enhanced protection for the emitter section. Both verisons of the case also cover the air vents on both sides, may help preventing dust from getting inside.
Printing for the cover itself has to be done from TPU since it needs to flex in order to be attached. The stiffener may be printed from any normal filament, I used PETG and then super-glued it on the case. In case you printed the printable version of the case no stiffener is needed.
