I was completely fed up with using velcro to mount my effects pedals on a pedal board. The glue side of the velcro would come off during transport and sometimes even during playing, resulting in pedals dangling from their cables and me having to remount them each time. And the pedals to which the velcro did stick, would be hard to remove when I wanted to make a different setup.

So, I designed a quick fix pedal board consisting of standard aluminium extrusion profiles and some 3D printed parts. You can quickly mount and unmount your pedals and the best thing is, it does not cost a fortune.

Necessary parts

Pedal board
  • 3D printed pedal board feet (left and right)

  • 2 pieces 40 x 20 aluminium profile B-type Slot 6 (you pick the length)

  • 1 piece 20 x 20 aluminium profile B-type Slot 6 (same length as the 40 x 20 pieces)

  • 10 round head M6 bolts (I used 16mm length, but less will do as well)

Clamps
  • 3D printed clamp parts (block and thumb screw head)

  • Rubber mat ~1 mm thick (I used bicycle tyre puncture repair patch)

  • M4 x 25 mm hexagon head bolts (one per clamp)

  • M4 washers (one per clamp)

  • M4 slide nuts for 2020 profile (one per clamp)

Edge pieces
  • 3D printed edge clamp

  • M4 x 8 sunk head bolts (one per clamp)

  • M4 slide nuts for 2020 profile (one per clamp)

Construction

Pedal board

Cut M6 thread into both ends of the aluminum profiles ans simply screw the feet on using the round head bolts.

Clamps
  • Glue the 3D printed thumb screw head to the hexagon bolt

  • After drying, put the washer on the bolt, then push it through the hole in the block. Do this on the flat side of the block. The ridge on the other side fits in the slot in the 2020 or 2040 profile.

  • Cut the rubber patch in pieces of about 20 x 18 mm and glue two of them on either side of a clamp block

Edge pieces

Push the bolt through the hole in the clamp, mount the slide nut.

The pedals need to be clamped on the bottom and the top side (see pictures) to prevent them from moving. The thumb screw enable quick changes. I bundled up the power cables with cable ties not really a a quick fix solution, but I did not have reusable cable ties....

Print settings

  • Prusa PLA (black for the clamps & feed, and some colour of your choice for the thumb screw head

  • 0.20 mm layers

  • Infill 15%

  • I used a HF0.4 nozzle with 80 mm/s for the perimeter and 120 mm/s for the infill

  • No skirt or brims, print the board feet laying on their side, print the blocks on one of the flat sides
