Carousel Organizer for Small Bagged Games
I designed this organizer because we had been storing small unboxed games in bins, and it was becoming awkward for customers to browse through them. The bins took up too much space, it was hard for people to tell whether they had seen everything, and the games did not display very well.
This carousel-style organizer lets the games hang in individual zipper bags so they can be flipped through more easily, almost like a card file or rotating display. It keeps the games visible, organized, and much easier to browse.
We have been using these in our store for almost a year now, and they have worked well. After testing different versions, I have found that the solid holders/spools work the best. They use more filament, but they hold the bags more securely and feel better in actual use.
I also included thinner holder versions, like the black version shown in the photos. These save filament, but they do not hold the bags quite as firmly. I am including them anyway in case someone prefers the lighter, faster-printing version or wants to experiment with them.
Parts Needed
Each complete organizer requires:
1 holder/spool
1 bracket
1 shaft
2 knobs
2 × 608 bearings
1 × M3 screw for each knob
If using the thin holders: 1 screw for each thin holder section
Assembly Notes
The shaft has some added internal structure to help keep the screws from breaking through into the center too easily. Even so, be careful when tightening the screws. They only need to be snug enough to hold the parts in place; overtightening may damage the printed shaft.
The knobs are used to secure the shaft and allow the carousel to rotate on the 608 bearings.
Using the Organizer
To insert the bagged games, slide the bags in from the side. Each slot has a small rounded area designed for the zipper portion of the bag. This helps grip the bag and keeps it from sliding out too easily.
The holder works best when it has several bags installed. The fuller it gets, the more securely the bags tend to stay in place.
Notes
This was designed for small unboxed games stored in zipper-style plastic bags, but it may also work for other small bagged items, such as manuals, parts, cards, accessories, or other lightweight inventory.
I would be interested to hear whether other people find these useful, and whether you prefer the solid version or the thinner filament-saving version.
