A handy (and possibly dandy) mini notebook with many different options to choose from, from the number of pages, to the design and features that fit your own personal needs.

Spine options range from 1 to 4 signatures, however if more signatures are desired you can print the Spine Link model and chain multiple spines together. The spines are attached to the front and back panels using pieces of 1.75mm filament. If this connection is too tight, I recommend printing with a -0.1mm XY compensation when slicing the spine.

Front and back panels come in three flavors: Plain, Deco, and Pen with Latch

The plain is just a flat, normal book cover, no bells and whistles.

The deco panel has an indentation where a decorative panel can be inserted. The indentation measures 130mm by 104mm for the Letter size panel, and 139mm by 101mm for the A4 panel. Both indents are 3mm deep. I recommend removing 0.5mm from the measurements so you don't have to struggle to press the deco panel in.

The Pen with Latch option is perfect for the writer on the run, with a latch that holds the book shut, a built in stencil slot, and a built in pen slot. Instructions for assembly are in the pictures provided above.

What you will need:

Printed (at least 15% infill recommended):

  • 1 Front

  • 1 Back (if you're printing a plain panel, you will just need 2 of the same model)

  • 1 Spine of your choosing

  • 1 Small stencil

  • 1 Pen

  • (Pen with Latch only) 2 Inner plugs

Not printed:

  • Some string for tying the paper signatures to the spine

  • 2 small pieces of filament for inserting into the hinges

  • Plain Letter or A4 size paper, cut in half horizontally and then folded in half again (make sure you print the correct models for your paper size)

  • (Pen with Latch and Deco panels only) Super glue (I use Gorilla gel glue)

  • (Pen with Latch only) Some elastic string for the clasp and for securing the pen. I recommend elastic that is around 1.5mm thick. Anything more than 2mm thick would be impossible to use.

  • 1 ink cartridge from a BIC Cristal with about half an inch cut off the bottom (if you find a cartridge that works better, PLEASE let me know)

Printing takes approximately 9 hours, using my Prusa Mini. Assembly can take up to an hour, depending on the size of the spine you choose and if you opt for the Pen with Latch option. All of the books shown were printed using Overture PLA Professional.

Please let me know if you have any problems with it, as it is definitely not perfect.

My models will ALWAYS be available for free, but if you would like to buy me a coffee (even though I don't drink coffee):

Edit: Now in A4 size!!!

Edit 2: NEW SPINE OPTIONS!!! Added spines with notches to add the new spine covers! Simply print the corresponding size of cover alongside the spine. Once the book is fully put together, slide the cover onto the notches on the spine. Glue can be used if you want it to be truly permanent.

Edit 3: Added new panel options. You can customize your Ever-Expanding Notebook EVEN MORE!!!

Edit 4: Now available in an even smaller form factor!

Edit 5: Added front panel with latch but no pen slot.
