An open-source wall-mounted holder generator for openGrid, using the openConnect system. This model is intended as a general-purpose solution for mounting everyday items. It is very versatile, with customization options that can be combined to create a variety of shapes, to form either a single holder or a multi-compartment organizer. The latter is useful when you want to hold many objects with the same dimensions, such as paint bottles

Several example .stl files are included, with the parameters used to generate them in the file names.

Customization guide:

  1. Measure the item. Pick the closest compartment shape: "Rectangular", "Circular", or "Elliptic".

  2. Set the compartment size. Use "compartment_width", "compartment_depth", and "compartment_height". Add a little clearance if you want the item to drop in easily.

  3. Set the compartment count. Adjust "compartment_column_count" and "compartment_row_count". Use 1x1 for a single holder, or increase the count for repeated items.

  4. Set the front opening. Use "front_opening_width" and "front_opening_height". Customize the size of the front opening, or set either value to 0 to disable it completely.

  5. Set holder body options:

    • "holder_width_mode" - Choose "Minimum" if you prioritize space-efficiency above all else. Choose "Tile Multiple" for a more consistent look, which aligns the outside edges of the holder to openGrid tiles.

    • "holder_tilt_angle" - increase this when you want the item to lean forward for easier access.

    • "holder_bottom_thickness" - set this to 0 for a bottomless holder.

  6. Optional: enable tapering. Turn on "enable_bottom_taper" and customize it with "compartment_bottom_width" and "compartment_bottom_depth". You can combine this with "holder_bottom_thickness" set to 0 to create tapered ring-style holders.

The model is open-source under the CC-BY-SA license. Like all the OpenSCAD models I've designed for openGrid, it can be found in this GitHub repository. Feel free to use the code; feedback and suggestions are welcome.
