Minimal NEMA 17 Motor Mounts for EQ5 / Vixen GP (OnStep)
These are compact, minimalist motor mounts designed for the EQ5 / Vixen GP equatorial mount using OnStep. They were designed around the JK42HM40-1684 NEMA 17 stepper motor (0.9°, 1.68 A), providing a clean installation while keeping the motors close to the mount.
The mounts are intended for GT2 belt reduction and support the following pulley combinations:
48T (mount) + 12T (motor) with a 140 mm GT2 belt
48T (mount) + 16T (motor) with a 144 mm GT2 belt
Required Hardware
2 × JK42HM40-1684 NEMA 17 (0.9°, 1.68 A) stepper motors
2 × GT2 48-tooth pulleys
Either:
2 × GT2 12-tooth pulleys + 2 × 140 mm GT2 belts, or
2 × GT2 16-tooth pulleys + 2 × 144 mm GT2 belts
2 × 4-pin GX12 male panel-mount connectors
8 × M3 × 8 mm screws
1 × M6 × 18 mm screw
1 × M6 × 40 mm screw
2 × M6 nuts
Electronics
This setup was designed to be used with OnStep and has been successfully tested with a FYSETC E4 controller board housed in a custom acrylic enclosure.

Minimal material usage while maintaining rigidity.
Clean cable routing using integrated GX12 panel-mount motor connectors.
