I ordered 2 Pi Touch 2 screens, and printed Stew's models while I waited for them to arrive.

Lo and behold, I ordered the 5" screens accidentally.

Rather than return them and order the 7" screens instead, I've gone back and forth with Claude and OpenSCAD to make this 5" compatible screen mount. It has the same mounting points for the Stew's screen holder model, and shares the same overall design.

Because Stew's model has a lot of space between the edges of the case and the Pi itself, his vertical vent design works fine for running USB cables in. However I found that didn't work for this smaller case as many USB cables are too chunky at the port end to be able to bend around such a short distance, so I've made the vents horizontal instead and aligned them with where the Pi sits. This will give you enough clearance to plug the power micro USB cable in, and one or two USB cables into the ports. The screen mounting posts do partially block the Ethernet port on a Pi 3 ModelB though - see the photos for what the interference looks like.

The horizontal vent change makes this print need supports. I just used normal supports, set to built plate only. I also painted support blockers inside the mounting posts, to prevent pointless supports being generated in there.

Important: if you install this on Stew's screen holder design, it will block the holes for screwing the case onto the touch screen. As I already printed the screen holder, I just drilled holes into it so I could pass the screw and a precision driver through into the mounting point.

Print settings:

  • Filament: anything you like really - I printed mine in PET-G. The Screen Holder print that this attaches to is the one that needs to be printed in a heat tolerant filament.

  • Quality: Layer height 0.2.

  • Strength: Wall loops 3, Infill Rectilinear 15% - it's really not bearing much weight so it doesn't need to be super strong.

  • Supports: Enabled. Type: Auto, On Build Plate Only. Paint support blockers inside the posts as they don't need supports.

I've provided the scad file as well if you want to play around with it. I set screen_clearance to 0.25 to give a little bit of wiggle room for filament contraction, which seemed to work perfectly with printing this in PET-G. YMMV.
