An open-source Gridfinity shelf generator for openGrid, using the openConnect system. This model creates a wall-mounted shelf with an integrated Gridfinity baseplate, with optional magnet holes and retention lips. Part of code based on Gridfinity Rebuilt.

Customization guide:

  1. Set the Gridfinity grid. Use "gridfinity_width_grids" and "gridfinity_depth_grids". An even value is recommended for "gridfinity_width_grids": two 42 mm Gridfinity cells line up exactly with three 28 mm openGrid cells.

  2. Choose a baseplate style.

    • Default creates the shortest plate without magnet holes.

    • Magnet - All adds magnet holes to every Gridfinity cell.

    • Magnet - Corners Only adds magnet holes only at the four outer corners of the shelf.

  3. (Optional) Adjust magnet size. Use "magnet_diameter" and "magnet_thickness" to match your magnets. A baseplate with magnets would include the additional clearance needed for the magnet thickness.

  4. (Optional) Add screw-together connections. Enable "enable_screw_connections" to add one horizontal screw hole on each side of every Gridfinity depth row. These holes are placed on the left and right edges, allowing adjacent shelves to be connected side by side. Use "connection_screw_diameter" to adjust the fit.

  5. (Optional) Add shelf body features. Use "shelf_back_offset" to add space between the back wall and the Gridfinity bin area. Use "shelf_side_rim" and "shelf_front_rim" to add material to the sides or front of the baseplate. Use "shelf_rim_lip_height" to add a raised lip that helps retain bins. Lips only appear where a corresponding side or front rim is enabled.

  6. (Optional) Adjust slot placement. Use "slot_horizontal_alignment" when the final shelf width does not land on the 28 mm openGrid grid. This can happen when "gridfinity_width_grids" is odd or when side rims are enabled. Select Left or Right if you want that shelf edge to line up with an openGrid tile. The advanced "slot_horizontal_offset" and "slot_vertical_offset" settings provide fine manual adjustment.

  7. (Optional) Adjust fit settings:

    • "gridfinity_socket_clearance" — increase this if Gridfinity bins fit too tightly.

    • "slot_lock_distribution" — more locking slots make the fit to openConnect connectors tighter, but also make installation and removal harder.

    • "slot_entryramp_flip" — entry-ramp direction can matter when installing the shelf in tight spaces.

    • "slot_side_clearance" and "slot_depth_clearance" — increase these if the openConnect slots are too tight, or reduce them if the fit is loose.

The model is open-source under the CC-BY-SA license. Like all the OpenSCAD models I've designed for openGrid, it can be found in this GitHub repository. Feel free to use the code; feedback and suggestions are welcome.

2026-08-02 Update: Added optional screw holes to connect multiple shelves together, similar to Gridfinity Rebuilt.
