Bottom Line, Up Front
This is the only cutlery organizer tall enough to make maximum use of your drawer space and hold all of your silverware.
What Else You'll Need
This model is based on 2nd Dynasty's GridForge system. You'll need to download their free grids to use as a base.
The grids are numbered from 0 to 6. As the number increases, the fit of the tiles into the grid becomes tighter. I recommend using the highest number you can so that the cutlery end modules don't pop out under the stress of regular use.
How to Build Up Your Drawer
1. Print the Base
Each GridForge cell is 1 inch x 1 inch. Measure your drawer, print enough grids to fill the space, and connect them.
2. Print and Install the Cutlery End Stops
You need to print two cutlery end stops for each cutlery category: teaspoon, soupspoon, fork, knife etc. For each, install the stops in the grid, using a sample of each cutlery piece to guide the length.
Knives usually take a 2x1 at each end. Everything else needs one 2x1 and one 2x2 -- alternate directions for maximum efficiency. For serving pieces, just leave some room around the edges for mixed-use space.
See the photo for an example.
Backstory
My wife and I have never been able to find an organizer for my cutlery that I have liked. After many years of frustration, she said: you've been filling up the house with plastic contraptions for years! Print me something to fix this problem.
In the course of doing that, I realized that the problem with standard cutlery drawer systems is that they're too low to hold all of our cutlery -- the slots always overflow. Since I designed these from scratch, I was able to match them to the height of my drawer.
Problem solved! Domestic bliss restored. :-)
Problems
A. My drawer isn't tall enough for the end stops!
Cut the end stops halfway up in your slicer and moves the upper piece down until it fits. DO NOT TRY TO RESCALE.
