The Voron 0's small size does not make it easy to add auto Z offset calibration like a larger Voron. This project allows you to add a removable fixture with a limit switch (like in the Klicky). This does require some wiring changes, since klipper_z_calibration requires wiring this switch in series with the Z limit switch.

You most likely will also need to modify the cable base since it was designed for the Voron V0 Auxilary Fan Ducts.

For this to work, there are 4 smaller assemblies:

  • Limit Switch Mount - Removable fixture that contains the limit switch.

  • Cable Base - Magnetic connector mount that stays attached to the frame.

  • Removable Cable - Magnetic connector that connects to the cable base and is wired to the limit switch mount.

  • Removable Jumper - Kept in place of the Removable Cable to keep the circuit closed. (See the modes of operation picture)

Besides the printed parts, the following are needed (nothing new compared to an existing V0 with Klicky):

  • 1 limit switch (like one found in the Klicky probe)

  • 12 6x3 magnets

  • 7 M2x10 self-tapping screws

  • ~22 AWG wiring

  • (Optional but recommended: a screw required to mount the cable base)

  • (Optional: anything to wire up the Z limit switch in series)

Instructions are limited for assembly (sorry!), but the assembly techniques are heavily based on Klicky. Soldering is only potentially needed for wiring up the Z limit switch in series. For any part requiring more than 1 to be printed, the description of the file will say how many are required. All models are pre-oriented. A screenshot of the required parts is also posted.

To configure the klipper_z_calibration add something like the following to your Klipper config (values might vary):

[z_calibration]
nozzle_xy_position: 14,9
switch_xy_offsets: -14,8 # Should go to 0,17
bed_xy_position: 60,60
switch_offset: 0.5
safe_z_height: 40
before_switch_gcode: ATTACH_PROBE
end_gcode: DOCK_PROBE

To run the calibration:

  • Home the printer normally.

  • Remove the Removable Jumper from the Cable Base and attach the Removable Cable to the Cable Base.

  • Attach the Limit Switch Mount to the front-left of the bed.

  • Run CALIBRATE_Z

  • Wait for the process to complete.

  • In the console, find the message like CALIBRATE_Z: bed_probe=11.420 - (switch=37.496 - nozzle=26.144 + switch_offset=0.500) --> new_offset=-0.432500.

  • Calculate switch - nozzle (for this example, it becomes 37.496 - 26.144 + 0.500 = 11.852) and store as z_offset in the Klipper configs and save.

    • If you accidentally use the provided value, the printer will print in the air.

  • Remove the Limit Switch Mount and Removable Cable, then place back the Removable Jumper.

As shown, this is printed in Black Polymaker ASA on a Voron 0.2 with 0.2mm layers. Other rigid filaments except PLA (might creep over time holding down the magnets) might be fine, since this should be run when the nozzle is at room temperature.
