A practically fully 3D printed rocket designed for Estes F15-6 motors for my university telemetry project. The rocket includes a payload bay with a custom telemetry sled that can easily be modified for whatever electronics you'd like to use.
I don't have an exact altitude for this rocket, but I've flown six of them and they've been consistently stable, even in winds up to around 15 mph. I'd recommend using at least a 20 inch parachute. An 18 inch chute will work, but expect a fairly hard landing. I've personally used both 30 inch and 36 inch parachutes made from REI plastic ponchos since the fully loaded rocket weighs around 1 lb.
The upper two thirds of the airframe were printed in Foaming PLA while the lower section was printed entirely in PETG. The lower section is the part most likely to break on landing, but the motor mount has always remained intact in my testing. The upper section has also survived a drop from apogee after a deployment failure on an Estes E16-6. My best guess is that it fell from over 1,000 feet. The upper two thirds of the rocket were damaged beyond repair (petg), but the telemetry payload inside was completely unharmed.
I've also attached our handheld receiver which we used to log the data from the rockets and visualize the data being collected in real time. All the electronics we used are in the 3D models.
My print settings were double wall 1% infill on each section no matter the material at .28mm layer height. For the smaller pieces i made them 15% infill still keeping with double wall at .2mm and .28 for the rocket motor holder part.
Feel free to modify the payload sled or airframe to fit your own electronics or mission requirements. That was one of the main goals when designing this rocket. If anyone ends up messing around with this model please update me! I would love to know if someone is building this or off of it. If you guys have any questions feel free to ask.
P.S. - Please practice safety when working with rockets, we don't wanna see anyone get hurt. Safety third! Also the step file displays a little funky but the fusion file should be perfectly fine.
