Slow-Sinking Diving Ring

A fun 3D-printable diving toy designed specifically for use in a swimming pool. Throw it into the water and watch it slowly sink toward the bottom, giving swimmers time to dive after it and catch it underwater.

The shape and dimensions have been designed to provide the desired behavior in water while keeping the model simple to print.

Important – weight matters

For the intended sinking behavior, the finished print at the original model dimensions should weigh approximately 170-173 g.

Because of this, check the estimated model weight in your slicer before printing. The required infill percentage may vary depending on your filament, slicer, extrusion settings, wall count, and printer calibration.

Adjust the infill if necessary until the slicer estimates a final weight close to 170-173 g. This is important for achieving the intended slow-sinking behavior.

Ready-to-print 3MF included

The included 3MF project file already contains print settings configured to achieve the required weight and print the complete model in one piece.

I recommend using the supplied 3MF as the starting point. If you use your own slicing profile, make sure to verify the estimated weight before starting the print.

Printing

The entire diving ring is designed to be:

Printed in one piece

Printed without supports

No assembly required

Simply print it, remove it from the build plate, and it is ready for the pool.

The combination of its geometry and carefully controlled weight allows the ring to descend slowly through the water instead of immediately dropping to the bottom.
